The story
VEX started as a promising prototype: a minimalist arena game where every match is short, sharp and skill-based. The founders knew the core loop was fun. They also knew it wouldn't survive contact with real players and real phones.
What we did
- Deterministic netcode. Rebuilt the simulation so matches stay in sync across devices with very different performance.
- A performance budget. Strict draw-call and memory limits, GPU instancing and a monochrome art direction that looks striking and renders cheaply.
- Meta-game and progression. Ranked play, unlockable cosmetics and daily challenges that give players a reason to return.
- Live ops tooling. Remote config and analytics so the team can balance the game without shipping a new build.
The result
VEX launched on iOS and Android holding 60fps on mid-range Android phones, with a median match latency under 80ms.
